Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination Policy

Policy Statement

The Mental Health Practice promotes equality, diversity, dignity and inclusion in all aspects of our work, and we will have no truck with prejudice based on the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 which are, in alphabetical order:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage or civil partnership

  • Pregnancy or maternity

  • Race (including colour, nationality, ethnicity, or national origin)

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

Scope

This policy applies to clients, staff, external providers and anyone else that The Mental Health Practice has dealings with.  It will always be considered when drafting procedures and other policies.

It includes, but is not limited to, accepting clients and delivery of service, recruitment, employment, training and promotion decisions, relationships with third parties and external service suppliers.

Commitment to equality

In pursuance of this policy and common decency, we will always act with kindness, consideration and understanding in our relationships with clients, staff and others and ensure that our practices are fair, open and transparent and applied consistently.  We will make adjustments where appropriate but will not make assumptions that adjustments are required simply because of, for example, disability.

We will ensure that our recruitment, training, employment and promotion practices are based solely on need and merit.  We will not treat everyone the same way where it is not appropriate to do so.  Equality relates to the goal of equal opportunity, not a homogenous approach.

Concerns and complaints

We will provide a welcoming and approachable environment in our dealings with clients, staff and external organisations and individuals which encourages the early raising of any concerns, and we will treat all concerns and complaints with speed and discretion.  All concerns or complaints should be raised with Tammy Groves but may be raised with Sean Waters and information is available and disseminated regarding raising concerns or complaints with external agencies such as The Legal Ombudsman.
